Canadian Scientists Zero in
on Arsenic-Friendly microbes
This article is mainly about the use of genetic biotechnology. The first idea of genetic biotechnology is they are coming up with ways to clean up the wells in Bangladesh. They did this by taking the DNA of a microbe (found in Australia) that will remove the arsenic in the wells. If this works, this will figure out new ways to control pollution that affects the 40 million people in Bangladesh. There was also a report issued listing 10 biotechnologies that will help developing countries with tools to diagnose AIDS and malaria fast, and are able to contain and treat the diseases. These 10 technologies include molecular diagnostic tests that are easy to use for certain diseases. It also includes a so-called reorder of vaccines, which are shots that are injected into you. Another thing that these 10 technologies include are nutrition-enriched crops, which are crops that have nutrients that are added into it.
This article is all about science. To be more specific, like I said up above, genetic biotechnology. This is when you take genes, and use it for a certain thing, in this case, cleaning up wells, or finding diagnoses for diseases. Everything in this article has reference to what researchers, and scientists say and do.
I think that what the scientists and researchers are trying to do in this article is really cool. The fact that they are able to take the DNA of a microbe, and be able to clean wells from arsenic bacteria, is really neat. Also that they can use 10 different types of biotechnology, to help diagnose disease like AIDS, and help millions of people in the developing country. They haven’t quite expanded on these yet, they are basically still in the planning part of it, but I still think that to be able to do that is really neat, and will be helpful to the developing world.
Scientific Terms:
Genome- An organism’s genetic material
Arsenic- A highly poisonous metallic element having three allotropic forms, yellow, black, and gray, of which the brittle, crystalline gray is the most common. An arsenic bacteria is a type of very poisonous bacteria that can kill a person
Recombinant- An organism or cell in which genetic recombination has taken place
Biotechnology- The use of microorganisms, such as bacteria or yeasts, or biological substances, such as enzymes, to perform specific industrial of manufacturing processes

On Kristina’s article, there were lots of things which were related to science and I thought it was very interesting. Her article was mainly about the use of genetic biotechnology. They did these by taking the DNA of a microbe (found in Australia) that will remove the arsenic in the wells.
The word arsenic is a strong poison which has a lot to do with science and it’s dangerous and it can kill a person. She even mentioned that they can use 10 different types of biotechnology, to help people diagnose diseases like AIDS.
I thought the science terms she write made it easier to read what the article was about. I think she made her article review detailed. I think it's very astonishing what they can do with technology.

I this was really good and i think that the first parragraphe was really long and could of been shorter. This artical was very interresting and i think you did a good job Kristina on this one.
the way you said how it relates to science is what i thought when read it. The rest of you article was very good and i think that you did a good job ok so GOOD JOB KRISTINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
